Higher Education in New Zealand
There are vast research opportunities for Ph.D. students as special additional privileges are provided, to them. They adopt the UK system for higher education. A traditional undergraduate degree takes three years to complete. While engineering, and other professional degrees take up to six years. Qualifications such as graduate, master's or postgraduate, diploma, honors, Ph.D. are earned, in New Zealand education.
Tuition fees
The tuition fees in different universities are different i.e you will not find standardized fees, in each college or university. The students are required to pay between NZD 24000 and NZD 38000 annually as an international candidate in New Zealand. The cost increases for a master's degree (which is two years) which, goes up to NZD 52000 and NZD 80000. The fees for engineering and science students are nearly high while that for arts and humanities is less. As mentioned earlier, a Ph.D. student will have similar benefits as a domestic student in this country.
Financial aid opporyunities
The introduction of free tuition fees by the New Zealand government policies has helped the students, to decrease the cost of undergraduate education. A fee of up to $12000, will be paid by the government to cover up the tuition fee and other inclusions. But the same is not applicable for studying master courses.
Higher education is not much controlled, by the government but domestic students (New Zealand citizens) have benefits over international students, in fee structure. The National student number (NSN) makes things smooth and easier in the education process.
Scholarships for International Students in New Zealand from the government are, run by the Ministry of Foreign affairs and trade. Benefits like waiver in tuition fees, living and establishing allowance to some extent, medical insurance, travel insurance is received if eligible.
